FIST!!! Oh man. So many people to thank, Laughs and Reveen of course, for without their innovative product line, I would have been in bed hours ago, and of course, suck it Oilhorse.

good blog brah.

agreed with almost all of it save brown. even if a true heavyweight is a deterrent (which I'm certainly not convinced it is) we need guys who can actually play some meaningful minutes other than dropping the mitts and heading off for the game. brown is capable of doing this. and u always know what ur gonna get with him. lots of effort and a puck hound.

browns on the starting night 4th line. mac sits at the end of the bench as an extra forward at best

Am i alone in believing that with the addition of Ference and Belov, the matuing of J Schultz/Petry that our defence is not only better, but more tough to play against than it has in probably 8 years... Hell, the back end in OKC is impressive. Hunt Marincin Klef gernat fedun...

Edit: Musil sucks

I'm happily surprised with Belov. He's hitting what I thought would be near the top of my expectations. Ference is the shizzle, haven't really seen Petry and Schultz much, Hunt is a nice surprise, Larsen too (though to a lesser extent).

Things ain't so bad on D this year.

you are not alone.

I actually feel reasonably comfortable with our blueline for the first time in as long as I can remember.
although im hesitant to say its anything better than adequate at this point.

ALOT depends on petry and j Schultz....

Hopefully JS doesn't suffer the sophomore slump.

Eager did the exact opposite of what he needed to do tonight to get a spot on the roster.

Brown was fine for a 4th liner, forechecked well, couple hits, even got a shot or two off.

Joensuu>>>>>>>>>>Jones right now

Omark was done no favours by playing with Gordon and Yak

Arcobello looked ok, but he'd get burned by any real NHL 1-2C regularly.

Acton is the shizzle, he's our new 4C. Hits, defends decentlty, can pop a goal here and there.

I'm realllllly curious to see if Jschultz is going to be allowed to go in deep and leave a guy like Hemsky on the point covering for him this year like he was last year. Happened lots last year where Hemsky or Gagner or even Nuge would have to play D on the reverse rush after jschultz lost the puck. We have elite players in our top 6, just give them the damn puck and you play trailer there J.

I hope he matures and holds back a touch 5 vs 5. on the PP, he should go balls deep because hes the reason we had so much success with the man advantage last year. He's so dynamic and gives us 1 more option when attacking the Ozone and setting up. I remember in the past when Hemmer would dipsy doodle into the opposing zone, only to poop hook at the blue line and cough up the puck...

He has some defensive lapses and while his offensive instincts are absolutely fantastic, he's not what id consider a thoroghbred skater per se. Fairly easy to track down and strip when he attempts to carry the puck deep 5v5.

I dont mean to harp and i essentially agree he wont be our first choice for the 6 spot, but my initial paragraph Kinda goes back to the stoke i mentioned on larsens speed and ability to rush. He'd immediately be our rush starter and best skater on the back end. Limit his minutes to match some 3rd line/defensive guys ice time and he could add an element they might lack on the breakout...

Just a thought

Based on pre-season I've watched I'd take Larsen over Fedun, but not Belov, and as a 5-6-7 guy, not Potter either.

Agreed.
Surprised by Eakins' statement post-game to the effect that its not such a big deal who plays centre---really?! Sounds frustrated to me.

Assuming j schultz is our 5.

I got;

Belov
Larsen
Potter
Grebeshkov
Fedun

Potter is so one dimensional and is really only usefull on the pp.
He does have size over larsen and is more physical, but he continually gets beat defending, and gets caught out of position trying to lay the body often times. Very mediocre skater and head for the game aint to great either.
He aint terrible, but i dont think it was a coincedence that our defence was brutal with one legged whitney and potter on our 3rd pairing.

Are you saying playing with Yakupov hurt his ability to show offense?

5? As in 3rd pairing 5th Defenceman ? Sorry, but I'm pretty sure he's a first pairing D on the Oilers.

if we go wit acrobello, i'll be shocked..it's lander's spot;his draft position and time to sink or swim makes it his job, to start.

Boy did NHL 14 over rate this fool. I think Belov and Larsen are the guys to watch out for. Potter will always stick around just because hes fairly serviceable. I really liked Larsen in all the games i saw him in for Dallas over the past couple of years. Smaller size for responsible player.

As a Senators fan may I propose a trade. Ottawa has far too much depth at forward especially center. Edmonton needs a big center with enough talent to play with their awesome wingers. Z-Bad and Conacher for Yakupov?

Your thoughts??

Our D's:

J.Schultz
N.Schultz
Smid
Ference

Are for sure going to make the team. Who's on the bubble.

Larssen
Nurse
Belov
Grebshkov
Hunt
Out of those 5 guys, who doesn't make it?

Yaks will be the best player on the team and one of the premier goal scorers in the league IMO. I wouldn't trade him for anything short of highway robbery.

I didn't watch yesterday's game, but just looking at the lineups it would be hard to make a case for a guy with a good game yesterday. Was pretty poor lineups.

As for Brown/Eager, one will be here for sure. Probably Brown. The other who knows. Do we go with 14 forwards and sit both Eager and Mac until the Van and Cgy and LA games?
